What should I expect for my first appointment?
The first appointment will include a consultation with paperwork to complete together.
For both Osteopathy and Sports Massage appointments, a complete history is taken at the first appointment. This consists of your lifestyle, previous and current medical history and questions to understand the presenting symptoms of the reason for the appointment.
I will ask for details of medications and approximate dates of operations or health diagnoses so please have these to hand.
Once this is completed, a hands on physical assessment will be completed. I will then talk you through what I recommend for your treatment and you can decide if it is right for you.
After the treatment I will advise on any after care needed, exercises, lifestyle choices and any follow-up appointments that may be needed.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
If you have selected Osteopathy or a sports massage appointment, please wear shorts and a vest top/ t-shirt, or a bra that can be underdone at the back for full back massage.
What do I do during an appointment?
Make yourself comfortable and relax. Some people like to have a chat, others prefer to switch off or even fall asleep.
During my osteopathic treatments, I talk you through what I am doing both before and during the treatment. Osteopathic treatments and sports massages are quite active, so it is likely you will be moved around on the couch.
How often should I have an appointment?
There is no prescribed frequency for osteopathy or massage. Each person has their own needs whether it be to ease a chronic matter, to assist with a current issue, maintain health and wellbeing, or to enjoy some pampering time.
Whilst massage and manual therapy often provides relief after the initial session, this is not always the case for long term concerns. I will advise my recommendation after the treatment and if a course of treatments is suggested, then we can make the necessary arrangements.
Will you diagnose my cause for concern?
Osteopathy specialises in the diagnosis, management, treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal and other related disorders. I will give you a clear explanation of what I find and discuss a treatment plan that is suitable for you.
I may recommend that you visit another medical health professional if I feel a referral is relevant, or for example, the diagnosis would benefit from a scan or blood tests.
What qualifications and insurance do you have?
I hold qualifications in and actively practice:
Bachelor of Osteopathy degree from the College of Osteopaths
Sports Massage
Soft Tissue Manipulation
I am registered with and a full member of The General Osteopathic Council and the Institute of Osteopathy. I am required to complete CPD in order to maintain my status as a registered Osteopath.
